Enjoying the Journey
BACK TO BLOG
Hey thanks for visiting my blog. Often times when I am preparing a sermon an idea comes to me that I want to unpack a little more. Hopefully, this blog will allow me the place to do that. Then again, maybe I’ll just talk about my kids. I’ll try to update it once a month..

I Never Knew You
June 18, 2008
This week we are studying Matthew 7:21-23. Jesus makes a pretty horrible statement. Essentially there are going to be a bunch of people who call Jesus “Lord” but they end up in hell.
If you’re like me you look at a verse like that and think, “Yup, and I can pretty much tell you who they are!” I have been reading many commentaries on this verse and every one of the writers is so confident. “It’s the Charasmatic Movement because they cast out demons” or “It’s the people who just attend church and judge everyone else.” It’s never them. It’s never us. You wouldn’t sell very many commentaries if you said “You know, I got to this verse and it just scared the Sam Hill out of me.” Heck, I probably lost half of you for even writing this.
But, in fact, the very nature of the response is going to be shock. The people will say, “Didn’t we prophesy, cast out demons, didn’t we write commentaries etc.” They are shocked it’s them.
What if it’s me? What if I spent the rest of my life teaching the Bible and it’s me. I know this can open up a doctrinal can of worms involving assurance and all that but if they didn’t know, what makes me so sure about my life? What makes you so sure about yours?
What makes our lives any different, really, than anyone else’s?
I’ll tell you a story about myself on Sunday where this really happened to me. Hopefully by then I’ll have it worked out so we don’t have to change. : )
